

Owner/Veterinarian
Dr. Peuser grew up an hour from here in LaCygne, KS. He graduated from K-State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. After spending his first year in practice in a small town near Wichita, he moved to Olathe in the fall of 2008. It was at that practice that his passion for surgery and pain management started. His practice became the first in Kansas to use stem cells in a dog. He became certified in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture in 2012 and a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner in 2013.
Dr. Peuser lives in Olathe with his wife and three boys. When he’s not at work, you’ll most frequently see him at the baseball fields with one of the three, either at games or at practice. He also enjoys golf and poker.


Veterinarian
Dr. Emmy Sund was born and raised on a small family dairy farm in northeast Kansas where she was one of 12 children. She spent much of her childhood milking and caring for the family's herd of registered Holstein dairy cows. After graduating with her B.S. in biology from the University of Dallas in 1998, she worked as a zookeeper and animal trainer at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. While training African elephants, rhinos, seals, and large cats she became interested in pursuing a veterinary career. Dr. Sund completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2006 from Kansas State University. After graduation, she married a Marine fighter pilot assigned to California. Since then she has practiced medicine all over the country from California's Mojave Desert to beautiful San Diego and our nation's capital, Washington D.C. Upon her husband's retirement from the military, Dr. Sund moved to Olathe in September of 2015. Her professional interests are dentistry, soft tissue surgery, and geriatric medicine. She and her husband have 4 children and can usually be found biking, swimming at the local pool, working on the family dairy farm, or exploring the KC sights.


Veterinarian
Dr. Beyer grew up in Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from Kansas State's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987, then moved to the Chicago suburbs to work at a busy small animal hospital. It was in Chicago that he met his wife, Michele. Ten years later, after several visits to family in Kansas City, Emporia, and deep in the Flint Hills, they decided to relocate to Lenexa, Kansas. Dr. Beyer and his wife have two sons and three grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys tinkering in his workshop, working on computers, dabbling with HAM radio, hunting, and fishing.


Veterinarian
Dr. Shelbie Wedel grew up in Shawnee, KS. She graduated from Kansas State Veterinary School in 2018 and has been practicing in and around the Kansas City area since. She enjoys all aspects of general practice, especially building relationships with animals and their owners.
Dr. Wedel and her husband, Tyler, currently live in Paola. Together they have a small farm with horses, cattle, chickens, cats, and a dog. When not working, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling with her husband, and doing projects around their home.

Welcome to our clinic! I’m Jill Peuser, the Hospital Administrator here at Advanced Veterinary Care of Olathe. I grew up in LaCygne, KS, and I’m married to Dr. Peuser, the owner of the practice—my high school sweetheart. I hold a Master’s degree in Accounting from Kansas State University, and together with my husband, we share the same vision of providing exceptional medical care and outstanding customer service for all our furry patients and their families.
When I’m not at the clinic, you’ll find me at the baseball field cheering on our three boys or thrift shopping. At AVCO, we are passionate about delivering the highest level of care to your furry family members, and I’m proud to be part of such a dedicated team.


Registered Veterinary Technician Team
Ashley has loved animals for as long as she can remember and knew from a young age that she wanted to work with them. She began helping on farms and volunteering at her local Humane Society at just 12 years old, and she’s been dedicated to the veterinary field ever since. After earning her associate degree in veterinary technology from Vatterott College, Ashley became a registered veterinary technician and now brings more than 20 years of experience to the team. She has worked in a wide range of settings—from exotic animal care to specialty medicine and surgery—and enjoys continuing to grow her knowledge, especially in exotic pets and surgery, while working in a hospital she truly loves.
Outside of work, Ashley is a proud mom to two awesome boys, Gregory (14) and Al (12), and shares her home with their dog Ginny and cats Pedro and Dutch. Her family loves spending time together swimming, gaming, taking nature walks, and going to the movies.

Jordan started working for Dr. Knappenberger as a junior in high school in 2011. She attended KSU to get her bachelor's degree in animal science. While in college she continued to work at Knappenberger Vet Clinic during breaks and holidays. I also worked as an emergency desk personnel at the Veterinary Health Center at KSU. After college she decided to work at KVC full time and stay on as a team member when it changed to AVCO.
Jordan has two dogs. Paisley, a 12-year-old boxer and Brogan, a 4-year-old Border Collie/Australian Shepherd. She grew up on a dairy farm and believes that really shaped her love and interest in working with animals. She has a passion for helping the animals and the owners. Jordan loves working out in her free time.

Laura has been working in the veterinary field for 6 years She loves studying animal behavior for all species and practicing "Fear Free" medicine.
Laura grew up with every kind of pet you can imagine. Which inspired her to learn about each species, so she could give them the best care possible. Her time in Animal Rescue led her to the field of Veterinary medicine. She loves being able to help pets live their best and longest life possible.
Laura loves a challenge! Working with anxious, aggressive, worried pets is my absolute favorite! She loves getting to know them, and eventually finding the best way to help the doctors treat them.

Destany has been working in the veterinary field for four years, starting her journey at just 17. She is currently completing her education to become a Veterinary Technician and also holds certifications in human medicine.
Her passion for medicine is what originally inspired her to pursue a career as a technician assistant. Growing up, she dreamed of becoming a marine biologist, and working with animals in a clinical setting has allowed her to expand her knowledge while helping pets and educating their owners—something she truly loves.
Outside the clinic, Destany is a dedicated cheer coach. She enjoys working with kids, helping them build confidence, and develop new skills. Coaching has taught her patience, creativity, and the importance of finding efficient, positive ways to guide young athletes while keeping the experience fun and meaningful.

Alyssa began her journey in animal care as a kennel technician through the Animal Health 21st Century Program in high school and has since gained extensive hands-on experience as a veterinary assistant. With a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Alyssa combines her understanding of behavior with her love for animals, giving extra care and attention to pets who need it most.
She is passionate about using fear-free techniques and creating a calm, comfortable experience for every animal. Alyssa also has a strong interest in animal behavior and enjoys finding ways to make each visit as stress-free as possible.
Outside of work, she loves reading fantasy books, spending time with family and friends, and playing with her dog, Monte. Her dedication to treating all animals with respect, kindness, and empathy shines through in everything she does, making her a valued member of our team.

Veterinary Assistant Team
Tammy earned her Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science with a pre-veterinary concentration from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and has nearly 10 years of experience in veterinary medicine across clinical and academic settings. Her background includes emergency care, surgery and anesthesia, dentistry, radiology, shelter medicine, research, and large-animal production work. She has a strong interest in animal behavior and uses fear-free phlebotomy techniques to help create a calm, positive experience for patients while caring for both companion animals and exotic pets.
Outside of work, Tammy spends time with her palmetto corn snake, Bean, and her super snow leopard gecko, Fish. She also enjoys art, cooking and baking, staying active at the gym, caring for her plants, exploring Kansas City, and dog sitting for many familiar pets faces she knows through the hospital.


Veterinary Assistant Team
Brittany began her veterinary career in 2017 as a kennel assistant and became a veterinary assistant in 2019. In 2022, she discovered a passion for exotic animal medicine and loves helping bring better husbandry and care resources to the Kansas City area.
She has worked closely with local rescues including Midwest Animal ResQ, HELP Humane, and The Rescue Project, and continues to volunteer when she can. Brittany also maintains venomous animal training and Level 2 certification through The Rattlesnake Conservancy, The Reptile Preservation Institute, and Midwest Tongs, and helped build Exotic Pets in 2024 to expand exotic pet education locally.
She is currently enrolled at Penn Foster and plans to specialize in reptile and amphibian medicine. Brittany was inspired to enter veterinary medicine after losing her childhood cat, Mozart, and is passionate about supporting families through every stage of their pet’s life.
Fun fact: She used to fear spiders and snakes—now she keeps at least a dozen of each!


Veterinary Assistant Team
Abby brings 7.5 years of experience as a veterinary assistant, working in both general practice and emergency care. Her lifelong love of animals started early—her mom even wrote in her baby book at age three, “Abby loves dogs!” She finds true joy in helping pets and their families through every stage of life and is passionate about providing compassionate, supportive care during both happy and challenging moments.
Outside of the clinic, Abby loves listening to music and going to live shows whenever she can. She enjoys spending her free time relaxing, recharging, and making memories with friends and family while continuing to celebrate her lifelong love of animals.


Customer Service Team
Dominique has over 16 years of experience in both small and large animal veterinary medicine. She attended Kansas State University with a focus on pre-veterinary studies, Agriculture and Animal Science, along with coursework in equine genetics, reproduction, and ranch management.
Her passion for veterinary care began growing up on a horse farm and led her to start working in a veterinary clinic at just 16 years old. Since then, Dominique has gained extensive hands-on experience assisting with exams, treatments, anesthesia monitoring, surgeries, patient recovery, and dental procedures for both small animals and horses.
Outside the clinic, Dominique enjoys hiking, reading, horseback riding, and spending time with her two daughters. At home, she has two cats, Jasper and Joey.


Customer Service Team
Colby was born in Lawrence, Kansas, and grew up fascinated by animals—spending his childhood catching reptiles, watching Animal Planet and Discovery, and reading and drawing about wildlife. He graduated from Washburn Technical Institute at 18 and joined the U.S. Air Force at 19, serving six years as a C-130J aircraft maintainer at Dyess AFB, Texas, and Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-5).
After his honorable discharge, Colby studied Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology at the University of Kansas and volunteered in the Natural History Museum’s Herpetology Collection, assisting with more than 355,000 specimens and copperhead field research. He later paused his studies to start Figg’s Fauna, a small business focused on educating and conserving rare invertebrates and exotic species, while also working in the local exotic pet community before entering veterinary medicine in summer 2025.
In his free time, he enjoys caring for his exotic collection, creating wildlife photo and video content, fishing, cooking, working on home projects, and spending time with loved ones.
